OUIL603 - 83 Photography Mockups

I mocked up the logo onto some business cards and stationary sets, the simplicity of the logo allows it to be transfered onto different contexts without being distracting. The logo also works really well on Robin's social media sites, it gives me a good feeling to see something I've designed all over someones business and their websites.

This is the front page of Robin's website, the wedding photography section, and look how well it goes with the rest of the site! very pretty, I'm pleased with that.

OUIL603 - 83 Photography

I was recently approached by the lovely Robin, a photographer from Leeds who needed a new logo for his photography company, 83 Photography. He wanted a new logo that would help customers associate the wedding photography side of his business '83 Weddings' with his normal photography.

He saw my work on Instagram and liked the cartoony, bright colours I had used in some of my previous work. So this was the approach I took when designing his new logo.

These are the original sketches that I sent Robin, of two potential designs I had in mine, and also a vague colour scheme, which was pastel obviously. He told me that he wanted a simplified version, something that was easy to use as a logo and could go on anything without being too distracting.
SO I came up with the below idea, which had Robin holding a camera, which was a must for the logo, and also the heart and name in the middle, which are the two other important aspects that Robin specified must be in the design.

OUIL603 - What will I do in Level 6

UUUUuuuuuuuughhhh
I'm scared.
So I think I know what interests me and what I want to build on throughout Level 6.

Throughout the summer I quit my job at Tesco so I can focus more on developing myself and putting things I'd made online to sell.

I really enjoy this, even though I've not made much money from it yet, it's fun to just make cute little craft items that I think people will like, I've especially been getting into combining my illustration with materials like lace and fabric.

I really want to start making my own clothes too. Pattern is something I'm really interested in, I think over Level 6 I want to try applying it to physical objects like clothes, homeware and crafty based things.

This probably sounds a bit dodgy, but my main motivator is money. I know that we're supposed to do things in life because they make us happy, illustration does make me happy, but I also want to make HELLA MONEY.

OUIL603 - Thought Bubble ideas

To get me pumped about making work for Thought Bubble, I'm going to focus on making work (fan art) for stuff that I'm really enjoying at the moment, which is mostly cartoons/series/films on Netflix.
I obviously need to capitalise on the X-Files success from last year, seeing as we're already wearing the same costumes as last year too. I've already planned and begun sketching a Scully print that I intend to do a run of screen prints, to sell at TB.

Other things that I've been loving lately:
Orange is the New Black
- Character zines
- Single character prints
- Character pin up portraits?

Always Sunny
- Huge character poster
- notebooks?
- printss
- wallpapers/patterns?
- character portraits

Seeing as I have just started running my Etsy page, I wanted to make shrink plastic badges to sell on there and also at Thought Bubble, I'll probably make some that are themed around the TV shows but I'm kind of excited to just make things that are just pretty, so I want to use the pupper character I've been liking and just play around and make some cute looking animals.

OUIL603 - Hildur Hoglind

Another musician, Hildur, who was touring with Sam, also wanted me to create her some merch designs, and also a tour poster. I started out by creating textures with watercolours, then scanning them in and playing around with them digitally. I first tackled the mirror designs, which could be any colours, but needed to be small enough and bold enough to fit on the mirror but still stand out, I used the watercolour textures and added type over the top.
Before creating any of the images digitally I made some textures and designs in watercolour, which I then scanned in and enhanced digitally.

I spent a long time carefully illustrating the lyrics to all hildurs songs, which took a long long time.

OUIL603 - Sam Lyon

I was approached during the summer break by Sam Lyon, I had been recommended by another musician to do some merch designs for her upcoming tour of Europe.

She asked me if I could create a few different designs of illustrated lyrics that would be put on notebooks, mirrors and used for temporary tattoo designs. She showed me a few reference images, but she basically wanted me to use similar pastel colours to my other work, and make the images quite feminine but still aimed at either gender.

After sending Sam a few designs for each set of lyrics we decided which were the final designs and she had them printed as temporary tattoo designs, here they are on some arms:

Sam also put the designs up on her online store, am I famous now? It's so so nice to see my work being posted around and actually being worn on someones skin! Luckily it's not a real tattoo or that might be a bit strange, but regardless, it's still ncie to see! It definitely shows me the importance of thinking broadly and applying my illustrations to more than just posters/prints.
