OUIL603 - Sam&Hildur tour poster

This was a fairly quick part of the brief they gave me, I was asked to design a tour poster with all the dates and locations on, they didn't really give me any specifics on what they wanted, just told me to use similar colours to the other merchandise, so I used my good ol' purple/pink/blue.
I was really into mountains and night scenes when I did this poster, and I had just figured out how to combine using the selection tool and then a textured watercolour brush to make fading gradients, which kind of made it look like papercut?

Here's a picture of the poster in context, in a bar down south somewhere, doesn't it look fancy in a nice shiny window??

OUIL603 - Some final Thought Bubble stuff

At first I was a bit stuck as to what I should sell at Thought Bubble, the main audience at Thought Bubble want fan art, it's one of the only things that sells there, so to help me get into the flow of making fan art again, I just started to make work that I would want to see, on things that I was interested in. One of the first things I made was this Orange is the New Black zine.
There isn't much to the drawings themselves but they're quite fun to make and appeal to the market of Thought Bubble.

I also made some shrink plastic x-files badges, I didn't focus too much on the x-files theme this year, but I thought they would be a nice extra to have on my stall, something different from just drawings. I like exploring different ways I can apply my illustration, 3D objects being one of them, making shrink plastic badges is really easy, and if you do it correctly, you can get some really good results.

OUIL603 - Lost

My mate Steve, who I've done lots of work for before, asked me to make some extra bits to go in his new album for the release, The album itself was called Lost, and Steve asked me to do something minimal, so I kept the design black and white and focussed on mainly using textures to make the image look nice.

I've found I have quite a knack for making hand drawn type, and I proper enjoy doing it, below is the credits page and acknowledgments that would be going on the back of the album

This is also the tracklisting, again pretty simple black and white design, I drew a bears paw to link back to the other design that I did for Steve's last album release, using lots of little lines to make texture, one of my fave things to do.

I really like all these simple little commission briefs because they're out of the way pretty quickly, I get money for them, and the client normally gives me quite a lot of artistic freedom to design whatever I want, which gives me chance to make work that's a bit different from what I normally do.

OUIL603 - Always sunny sketches

I started skecthing out some ideas for character postcards to sell at Thought Bubble, I wanted to try and come up with something new instead of general fan arty type stuff, but they never actually got finished sadly, some of them I scanned in and coloured though, but I wanted to take them to a much more finished level before I sold them at Thought Bubble.

I love all these little characters and I think they look so cute together, but I never managed to get them to a fully finished point where I'd be happy to sell them. I'm sure I'll get back to them at some point and mock up them properly to make the most of them.

OUIL603 - Scully screen print

At Thought Bubble 2014 my screen prints sold really well, so I thought I would do another run of Scully prints this year. The prints were mainly for fun, and the design is just meant to be a 'teenage Scully' sort of spin off. I tried hard to think of a different composition, rather than just showing the figure face on, so I drew her from a higher angle, and I think it really works with her posture.
The prints themselves truned out quite well, most of them were two colour so they weren't too difficult to produce. I tried printing onto different stock for some variety, and the pink ones sold quite well, although the original with Scully's iconic red hair was my favourite.
I still need to work on positioning screens correctly when I'm printing, because some of the prints didn't look quite right and were too misaligned.

The pink stock made it a bit hard to see the design, especially because the black lines were so thin, I liked playing around with different stock but I think that the first two designs worked much better. Getting the chance to screen print again was enjoyable, but it made me remember just how stressful the process can be, especially when things don't go as planned.

OUIL603 - Single cover design

Recently a friend of mine that I've done previous work for asked me to do a quick CD design, and poster, for a new album release from his band/act, Arms & Hearts. He wanted something that went well with the previous artwork I made for album Set in Stone, so I kept it all black and white, also to keep printing costs down.
I think the minimal kinda artwork goes with the title of the album, the cloud kinda looks lost doesn't he? I again used the selection tool and textured brush to make a nice fadey gradient, which combined with using different layers and trasnparency settings made some lovely overlapping textures.
