After getting bored of just doing paper based collage I wanted to go back to practicing my digital skills, because my theme is surveillance I thought I would start looking at eyes, this is a close up of an eye and the retina which I thought had an interesting texture.

OUIL504 - Illustration 1 - Dragonframe workshop
I quite enjoyed the Dragonframe workshop, although I didn't think I would, although it was time consuming I enjoyed watching the animation come together slowly over time.
I think dragonframe would be something that I'd like to use again, maybe not with cut out pieces of paper, I'd probably want to draw doing a hand drawn animation, seeing as cutting out all the pieces was what I found the hardest.

OUIL504 - Studio Brief 2 - test animation
In small groups we created a quick test animation using an animation app, it was really easy to use and even though the outcome isn't perfect I think it's good for a first attempt.
Next time I try doing a simple animation I will try something that is easy to replicate more than once because I found it very time consuming cutting out a new shape each time.

Project Panel - Library of assets for you to use in your animation, you can only use images for an animation once they are imported into there.
The timeline - Always us to specify what happens at a particular moment in time.
Kind of like the layers panel in Photoshop.
Main panel gives you a preview of what your animation will look like after you've exported it.
Steps
1. Import your images and assests
2. Use your timeline to asses how it looks in the main panel
3. Use the main panel to make sure you are happy with the finished piece.
Preset animation requirements
Layer > New > Solid...
Adds first new layer when main panel is selected
By default the layer will last for the whole duration of the project
You can change how long the layer lasts by dragging the red bar.
Using the RAM preview works better than just pressing play. Using RAM play will give you a realtime playback speed.

OUIL503 - Responsive - Choosing a Brief
YCN Briefs
http://www.ycn.org/awards/ycn-student-awards/2013-2014/briefs/cath-kidston
I decided to choose this brief because I am a fan of the Cath Kidston brand and have started to become quite interested in surface pattern and textile design.
http://www.ycn.org/awards/ycn-student-awards/2013-2014/briefs/bear
The Bear brief, to design the back of their cereal box for Alphabites, appealed to me because I am interested in children's illustration and have also wanted to try a bit of package design.
D&AD Brief
http://www.dandad.org/en/body-shop-re-establish-beauty-pioneers/
I was interested in the Body Shop brief, to create a new visual language for the brand, because I am quite familiar with it and think that their ethics on animal testing should be brought to light and made more widely known.

OUIL504 - Initial Peer Feedback
- Collage stuff is great
- Good research, produced a lot of work, really good us of mixed medias, a lot of experimenting.
- Really good experimentation of media. Well thought out composition and frame. I like how everything is the same size and they work well as a set. Your collage stuff is lovely too, I think you should consider this more in future briefs.
- Really dark and interesting themes looked at here, great!
- Playful texturing, also I don't know why I don't hate that your sketchbook is so sellotapey but I kinda like it.
I agree that I think my collage work is quite successful, I want to carry these on throughout the brief.

OUIL504 - Studio Brief 1 - Creating intangible themes
Although I don't really like doing collage, as I feel it has a lot of limitations with what it can create, I did enjoy trying to convey intangible themes through collage.
The main theme I chose to explore was identity. As George Orwell's novels, especially 1984, are quite dark and morbid, I wanted to convey these feelings through the use of collage.
My favourite images were the ones where I used more than one media, like paint, tape and paper.

OUIL504 - Studio Brief 1 - Using line and collage
Although I have used collage before, I haven't done it a lot because I never really like the outcome and I don't think it works well with my way of working. Having certain constraints around what we could create using collage I did find it a lot easier and I quite liked the work in the end.
I found creating these directory of lines quite useful, as I had never really thought about using different line qualities to create a sense of depth in my work before.
