For the stamps, I first thought about having a small icon that was recognisable and was related to Einstein, I thought about using maybe a clock, a pipe and his mustache, but I couldn't make the image work as a whole in a way that I thought looked nice.
I finally decided that I would do a series of stamps with the thing that nearly everyone would associate with Einstein, his equation E=mc2.
I wanted to use the galaxy texture that I had created using brusho paints, so I started out by taping up an area so that only the letter would be exposed, I painted over the top so that the texture was only inside the letter form.
however I decided i didn't like the way this looked, as I thought there was too much negative space. I went the other way round and created blocks of this galaxy texture which I would put into photoshop and cut out the letter form so that the background was texture instead.
After some playing around with cutting out the text by hand, and decided that didn't work at all, as it was hard to get the letter exactly right, I tried with actual fonts and messing around with the colour, but I thought that the white font was too much of a contrast against the textured background, i also didn't particularly like how it was just one block of colour, I wanted something a bit more interesting.
So I started making shapes out of the textures and layering them on top of each other to see how that turned out.
I then used the texture to create the letter form but again, I thought that the contrast wasn't high enough and it was quite hard to easily see the letter.
In the end I tried messing around with transparency, because I liked how easy the white text was to read but just not the level of stark contrast, so I found that making it less transparent helped to keep the text easy to read but also made it less of a harsh contrast.
Overall I really like my stamp design, I think the white font stands out really nicely against the collage background, which I think is easily recognisable as a galaxu texture, combined with the imagery itself to communicate Einstein, I think these work really well.
