OUIL603 - Rude animals Zine fair part 2
I want to revisit this zine after I graduate and re-do it, maybe in paper cut, and sell it on my Etsy, maybe some of the designs on there own as prints also, animal art is always really popular, and luckily for me I love doing it.

OUIL603 - Starting to do some papercuts
To start me off I started mocking up some scene using papercut. For a final product I want to make a few different papercut scenes like these ones, outlining a situation a child might find themself in, which makes them feel a negative emotion. These would go with the flashcards for the child to read and help communicate their emotions properly with the adult that they are speaking to.
I will illustrate each scenario, for example, The main character is Sad because she fell over and hurt her knee, but her classmates are laughing at her, so the Sad Monster appears, and the only way she can get rid of him is by talking about why she is sad and what has caused it, this leads me onto the flashcards that I will design, they will introduce each monster to the reader and have a questionaire card with them to help the child identify why they are feeling whatever negative emotion it is.

OUIL603 - Shrink badges
I made some of these shrink plastic badges, mainly for Thought Bubble, but also to put onto my Etsy page. They are really quick to make, so are perfect to sell at places like Thought Bubble, that require a generally quick turn around image/thing.
I didn't really have a set theme for my badges, so I just did cute looking animals, which is always a go to of mine when I don't really know what to draw, and I also spent some time looking through pinterest to find things that inspired me. I tend to find that crafty things to sell at fairs and online don't have to mean anything, they can just look pretty, I often miss just working on an image purely just to make it look nice, rather than having to respond to a set brief with guidelines and clients to please.
OUIL603 - Patrick tutorial
Issues discussed at tutorial
- Screen printing pigeons as a book and promo.
- Big Kahuna - early development stages, needs to be accelerated, large scale needs development - How to approach this?
- Laser cut and screen printed, collapsable pieces that can be assembled in schools and in context.
- Degree show, large scale cutouts, educational pack (practical) characters and environment (story to follow) Backstory/synopsis - Who are the monsters? How many are there?
Student Action
- More direct research in schools - Ages? - Sure Start and community groups - Leader/teacher feedback.
- Induction in laser cutting - Make moquettes.
- Consider how the stories are delivered in show and practically.

OUIL603 - Big Kahuna
I had a good idea for a possible final outcome, I was inspired by Olimpia Zagnoli's work an how bold the colours are. I think that my monsters would work great at a huge scale painted in similar bold colours, and the block colours are pretty easy to achieve with gouache and papercut.
I was also inspired by the Kaws exhibition that I went to visit at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, a few days ago. These had a lot more impact in real life because they were absolutely hugggee, but I still liked the basic block colours and bold shapes regardless of size. His bold character design is something that I think would lend itself well to my project.

OUIL603 - DOGS
A while back I was feeling a bit stuck and unmotivated with my work, so I decided to draw something that made me happy, that was funny looking dogs. I started out drawing some that made me laugh, but felt like they didn't really have a purpose. After my tutorial with Ben I decided that I would submit them as a greetings card to a website called Urban Graphic, that has a lot of similar kinds of humorous illustration. I'm going to make more of these and also create some different ranges to be submitted.

OUIL603 - Lesser known dog breeds
I added my contact details on the back and my new pigeon head logo that I have adopted and will put on any work that I sell at fairs from now on, I really want to get stickers and badges made of the little guy, the shape would work really well.

OUIL603 - Penguin Books
I chose last minute to do some work for the Penguin brief, specifically, the Adult fiction cover for How to be a woman by Caitlin Moran.
I was really really pleased with the outcome and think that this is one of my best pieces of work. I started by painting the image with gouache then scanned it in and enhanced the colour, playing
around with the composition, as I had to move it around quite a lot to fit in with the text.

I think the hand drawn type one the front of the book really helps to make the cover stand out. I'm still a bit unsure about the back of the book and think that it's a bit plain.
OUIL603 - Offlife
I found doing Offlife last year really challenging, in a good way, because I don't normally work in a comic format, so it was nice to do something different. I found doing this years Offlife a lot easier, which must be a good thing? and I think I've improved so much, and find it easier to combine elements of my work that I really like, for example, the bright colours, and putting it into a comic format.
I wanted to be a bit different with the layout of the comic, so I played around with the way the comic is read and the composition, so at the end it reads from right to left.
The comic itself is about a day out to Bridlington, me and my boyfriend were walking along the beach which is generally supposed to be quite romantic, but we ended up finding a colostomy bag that had been washed up, which isn't very romantic.
I called the comicstrip The Most Romantic Moment Part 1 because I want to do more of these, and maybe make them into a book, I probably won't have time to do this before the module deadline, but I want to do it some time soon.
OUIL603 - Mad Max poster
It's been a while since I made a poster for the film society, but I think this is definitely my favourite of the lot. I wanted to try mixing a realistic style with crazy texture and colour, I think it worked really well, especially by drawing the character first rather than jumping straight into photoshop.
I spent quite a while drawing this furiosa, making sure that I copied the details as closely as I could to the real image. It was quite difficult to draw because I didn't have an exact reference image to work from for that pose, so I had to piece together other bits of reference.
I used her face from this image, and think that I got the look of it pretty spot on, I wasn't exact with replicating it but I got across the emotion through the face.
I used this photo as reference for her arms, especially with all the intricate detail in her mechanical arm, which I didn't end up fully drawing because it was waaay too complicated, so I covered it with the text, so I mainly used the image for costume reference.
I used a bright yellow to contrast the pink and to add highlights and depth to the background image.
I wanted furiosa to be the main focus of the poster, because she's basically the main character and I really wanted to do some detailed realistic portrait stuff. I loved drawing all the detail and spending time getting all the proportions right, I feel like I don't usually have time to do realistic looking work because it takes me so long, but I right enjoyed doing this.

OUIL603 - Furiosa reference
I was looking through pinterest for furiosa fan art to give me some inspiration for my poster. A lot of the work on pinterest was very over-sexualised, which I didn't want mine to be at all:
I liked the below image the best, The contrasting colours are really striking and it doesn't sexualise furiosa in any way, it makes her appear powerful and bold.
I tried to emulate this kind of acidic contrasting colours with the yellow highlights in my design.
