For Studio Brief 1 my group decided to look at inappropriate clothing for the weather, mainly with young adults and going on nights out.
We started off by thinking about why we think this is shit and what we find annoying about it. We wanted to focus on drawing attention to how stupid this is, but try to stay away from being too blaming or 'slut shaming' by focusing on not the fact that the clothes are too revealing, but simply how silly it is to wear such little clothing in really cold weather. We thought we could solve this problem by creating a slogan to go with which ever method of promotion we chose.
We went through a few ideas of how we what we might create to communicate our idea and ended up going with stickers, as we thought this was the most simple and straight forward idea that could be placed within the context which is most relevant. We had other ideas of creating banners and posters or holding protests outside shops and bars, however as a group we decided that protests would be too embarrassing and making stickers is most relevant in the context of a city, as you see a lot of them dotted around in random places advertising companies and events.
We thought it would be best to put the stickers in the places which you are most likely to see this sort of thing, or where the people who wear these sort of things are most likely to see them, so for example, cheap fast food places, night clubs and shops like Topshop and American Apparel.
