At first I again found it hard to come up with enough ideas but once I began to look at specific parts of the image and think how I could change it slightly to improve it, I found that doing this would help me come up with different ideas at the same time.
I started out by mainly using different thicknesses of pen, as I thought that the bold and crisp lines suited the simple, icon like images I was creating. On my second page I decided to start experimenting by using charcoal and inks. I found that the charcoal gave a very delicate and thin line which I think worked with some of the ideas, however it smudged very easily and was sometimes hard to control and create the shape that I wanted. I also experimented using masking tape and ink, I wanted to see how it would by blocking out the paper using the ink and having the white space create the shapes rather than the media itself. Although it was harder to create a smooth and flowing line with the tape I think it worked well with the bold designs, and I think the contrast between the bright white of the paper and the smudgy grey worked really well.
One problem I came across was conveying the message behind the image rather than just what the drawing was of. I found it easy to create images that were obviously of cats, but I had to find a way of communicating "I love cats" rather than just "this is a cat". I decided to do this it would be best to combine more than one image, that way it would be easier to also include the initials.
