(insert picture of BIG tear drop guy)
Developing on from the big collage sad tear drop character I made a while ago, when designing the Sad Monster, I first kept playing around with t he tear drop shape but thought it was a little limiting, and maybe a bit too obvious also.
Instead of a stereotypical tear shape, I went a bit more blobby with the shapes, I was thinking about water and how tears look when trying the blobby shapes and thought that it worked well, but I wasn't 100% happy with the design and thought that he didn't look sad enough.
I was inspired by the blob fish, as I talked about in the other post, because he looked like the ultimate sad monster! This was me playing around with a more simple blob fish with a bit of a more detailed face design. After playing around more with the blob shape, I thought it looked nice a little sharper and less blobby and the design looked a lot better with a more detailed face.
Below is the final character design which I created with the papercut technique, I found that doing this with all the test characters was way too time consuming, although it looked nice, I thought it would be more efficient to save the papercut for the final design.
