OUIL603 - Shy monster development

My starting point for designing the Shy Monster was his big hands, I tried to think of a way to visually communicate shyness, the strongest thing that came to mind was a face covered with hands. I wanted to have some of the little face poking out over the hands, I think it makes the character look really cute.

I tried using some longer, thinner shapes, and giving him lots of legs, but in the end I think that the simplicity of the body again helped to convey the emotion by focussing on the facial expression and its features.

I found it quite hard to get the fingers to look exactly the way I wanted them, when I was trying to make it using the papercut method, I think it was way too fiddley and difficult to get the arms the same size and shape, so I made the legs using papercut and then used some of the same texture to add the arms and eyes in digitally.
